In the shoes of the mayor of… Savigny-le-Temple: “Security is neither right nor left”

In the shoes of the mayor of… Savigny-le-Temple: “Security is neither right nor left”

Since the beginning of her last term, Marie-Line Pichery (Socialist Party), elected mayor in 2011, has increased the municipal police force and the network of cameras. This proved useful when, during the urban riots of June 2023, the state found itself struggling to restore order on the ground. For her, "a mayor also has a calming role."

The mayor remains the French people's favorite local elected official, the one we identify with, the one we turn to in times of difficulty. Invested, under pressure, mistreated... They perform a role that is becoming less and less appealing, as the mission has become so difficult. One year before the next municipal elections , we are meeting them so that they can share their thoughts on a significant and memorable event during their term.

"For years, people have been saying that there were n't enough police officers in the area. The evening of June 28, 2023, was the last straw!" The urban riots that followed the death of young Nahel , killed by a police officer in Nanterre (Hauts-de-Seine) in June 2023, left their mark on Marie-Line Pichery (PS), the mayor of Savigny-le-Temple , the fifth largest city in Seine-et-Marne with 30,500 inhabitants, located in the Grand Paris Sud conurbation.
